Scale Addict

I wished I could say that I have developed an addiction for exercise, but I can’t.  Not yet anyway.  In fact, I’m still forcing myself to exercise.  I have not had the chance to ride my bike in over a week due to the rain.  I’ve been stuck inside.  Wii fit and I have become good friends.

I have a confession.  I’m addicted to my scales.

Normally I hate them.  I try to stay as far away from them as possible.  In the past two week I have grown very fond of them!  In fact, I sometimes weigh several times a day.  Why do I do this?  I weigh in the morning.  I weigh when I get to work (yes, I have scales at work too!).  I will go to the bathroom and weigh again.  I weigh before I go to bed.

I’ve lost 6.5 pounds (based on my last weigh in 5 minutes ago).  Great.  However, I have gain something else.  Some weird scale fetish addiction.

Does anyone else do this?  I’m sure it’s not health.  In fact, it is a distraction.  I just can’t help myself.

I’m hoping to love exercise as much as I have learned to love the scale.  I’m guessing I’m going to need a few more “dates” before I declare my true feelings for exercise.  I may never get there, though…

For now, I have a “date” with my scales.  It’s been at least 5 minutes.

You are crazy! :-)

I broke up with my scale a few months ago. I would weigh myself first thing every Monday morning. It seemed to control my mood. While my head knows that water, muscle, waste, time of the month can impact the number on the dial…my emotions don’t always get it.

As a result, I only use the scale as a tool now.

And, if I’m up a few lbs sometimes I know it’s because I was either over indulging, killing it in the gym and adding muscle, or carrying water due to PMS.

I use other tools more now to judge my progress…sometimes measurements, sometimes by taking progress pictures, sometimes by the way my clothes fit, and sometimes by the way I look in the mirror.

Congrats on the weight loss! Sounds like whatever you are doing is working like a charm.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I was obsessed with the scale. 2, 3 times a day. The battery ran out and I’m NOT replacing it. The relationship is over. And I can breathe.

Wow, I have been fighting this issue for YEARS! The only time that I have successfully stopped for at least 40days was during lent season where I gave up the scale as my fast! Sad, but true. We have to find a balance. I think that it is normal to weigh in ONCE a week, on the same day, in the MORNINGS!

Remember that your body also works according to the weight of your food, so if you eat something heavy the night before your weigh in, why on earth would you weigh in the next day? Tell yourself that you can indeed control this awful habit that we use to define us. YOU ARE NOT A NUMBER my dear. Base your joy off of being healthy, looking great and feeling great.

I am making a commitment to join you in doing away with the scale everyday! We can do this!
God bless you :-)

Whew! I feel way better about my scale fetish now. I didn’t think it was possible, but you *win* — LOL. I ONLY weigh first thing in the morning…nekkid…after *everything* that is supposed to happen, happens…but before I take a shower — oh, and after I exercise. That’s it. I refuse to weigh at night. I would say “call me crazy,” but I’ve read your blog, and you stole the title (LOL). Thanks for this. You are now on my blog roll, babe ;-)
